witch fingers

3-4 dozen depending on size of fingers
less than an hour not including fridge time





1 c soft butter
1c powdered sugar
1 egg
1tsp almond extract
1tsp vanilla
2 2/3 c flour
1 tsp salt
3/4 c whole almonds
1 tube of clear or red decorator gel

1. beat together butter, sugar, egg, extract, and vanilla
2. beat in flour and salt
3. cover and refrigerate 30 min
4. take heaping tsp of dough from bowl in fridge (keep majority of the dough in the fridge) roll into finger shape for each cookie. for the knuckle squeeze in the center to puff the dough out. I think they  looks better when they look like an arthritic finger all misshapen. press the almond firmly into 1 end of the nail. If desired make slashes in several spots of the knuckle
5. place on a baking sheet at 325 for 20 minutes
6. let cool for a few minutes
7. To keep the almond in place lift the almond from the cookie and glue it with decorator gel. I like to paint the almond a dark witchy red

*this is a shortbread type cookie. Yummy and fun!
